Holy Trinity, Weston

Church Lane, Weston, HITCHIN, Hertfordshire, SG4 7DJ

Service Times

We are a congregation mainly made up from people in Weston, Halls Green, and Warrens Green, but also take part in services across the Kingswood Benefice. We are fortunate to have a choir who support our Evensong and Parish Communion services, and other special services throughout the year.

Friday Morning Prayer – 9:30am

Morning prayer is normally said in Weston on Fridays, and we link into the Zoom morning prayer too. It’s a short service, with readings, and set prayers, as well as a chance to pray for ourselves, others, and the wider world. It usually lasts about 20 minutes.

1st Sunday – Evensong – 6pm

A reflective service from the Book of Common Prayer, supported by our choir. Come and enjoy the music, listen to the Bible readings, and rest in the peaceful, traditional words of evensong.

2nd Sunday – Village Praise – 11am

A shorter service, with songs and a reading, and a short talk. Prayer activities, and a chance to worship together in an informal setting, with tea and coffee before the service. We are a small and friendly congregation, with a relaxed atmsophere.

3rd Sunday – Matins – 11am

A service of Matins from the Book of Common Prayer. Usually led by one of our Lay Leaders of Worship, it is a traditional service, normally with a short sermon as well as bible readings.

4th Sunday – Parish Communion – 11am

This is a Holy Communion service supported by our choir, with a chance to hear and sing some beautiful music. All are welcome, whether to receive communion or a blessing.

About the Church building

Tucked down one end of the village of Weston lies Holy Trinity church. By road is seems as if you are right on the edge of the village but when you walk down the leafy pathways from inside the village it takes no time at all to come into the lovely peaceful churchyard, a favourite walk for many. The oldest part of the church is the north transept with its high deep 12th century windows that give a glimpse of what the church must have been like all those years ago. The main part of the church has been added to, repaired and reordered many times over the centuries but is still an harmonious whole. It has a wide central area which is light and airy (and with perfect acoustics), a stately organ, modern choir stalls, a beautiful baptistry and a quiet serene chancel and high altar decorated by curtesy of the Cherry family. Its flexible seating means that it can host a variety of occasions. The church has services in a variety of traditions so there is always a welcome here whether you like the traditional style or the more relaxed all age worship. Don’t forget to read the legend of Jack ‘O Legs in the porch and find his grave by the gates!
